“…….the inevitable decrease in eyes and ears across Afghanistan could threaten a range of long-term U.S. investments and priorities, such as women’s rights, education, health care and infrastructure.”

Shouldn’t the debate be about how the decrease in eyes and ears in Afghanistan(and many other foreign countries) strengthens our investments and priorities at home, such as women’s rights, education, health care and infrastructure?

Sustainability; now we are getting somewhere. They are finally starting to ask the questions I’ve been wondering about for 10 years. How are we going to control those people without roads? How do you build roads through all those mountains? How are we going to afford to build all those roads? We should immediately raise taxes any time we declare war so we can actually afford the operation. At least we can print money.
