In Aug. BDN reported that Trenton airport management was concerned that the airport would lose its FAA funding because not enough passengers were passing through the airport. To qualify for FAA funding 10,000 passengers were needed and PenAir was well short of that number.
Now, the FAA wants to fund improvements to an airport that may close? Either this is a waste of taxpayer money, or BDN is missing part of the story.

Is there anything that the feds do that make sense?

Keep in mind that Maine sends 70% as much money to Washington as it gets back, so that 70% of the $1.9 million that ‘the FAA pays’ is from Maine. The real cost to Mainers for the $2.5 million in improvements will be around $1.9 million.

For an airport that may close? IMO that is a waste of money. Not that the airport would close. Too many summer people use it for their jets.
