SAM’s 4th annual Save Our Heritage Banquet a success

The First annual Gift for a Lifetime youth lifetime fishing license program was a great success. More than 200 people attended the Fourth annual Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine Save Our Heritage banquet and had the pleasure of watching 13 children, ranging in ages from 5-15 years from all over the state, receive lifetime fishing licenses. The only requirement to receive the licenses was a love of fishing and a commitment to continuing the family tradition.

Thirteen businesses and individuals sponsored the $300 licenses and paid for the children’s family members to attend the banquet. The program, which SAM intends to continue, was first developed in a partnership SAM and the Jewett family. Jason Jewett was killed in a motorcycle accident and his parents, Jeff and Pam, wanted their son’s love of the Maine outdoors to be remembered and passed on. Several sponsors of youth lifetime licenses did so in memory of a loved one killed in the line of duty.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a child lifetime fishing license for next year’s banquet should contact Becky at 622-5503 or becky@sportsmansallianceofmaine.org.
