ORONO, Maine — The town of Orono and the Orono Village Association will present the Orono Village Tree Festival from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.
The tree festival caps off an afternoon of events in town that begin at 2 p.m. with the University of Maine School of Performing Arts’ Yuletide Concert at the Collins Center for the Arts.
The old-fashioned village celebration kicks off at 4 p.m. with free hot chocolate and cookies at the “Holiday Tree” on the corner of Bennoch Road and Main Street.
Also starting at 4 p.m. but continuing through the evening are a marshmallow-roasting bonfire at Rose Bicycle Shop and judging of the “Holiday Windows” decorated by Orono High School art students.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Orono High chorus will entertain the crowd waiting for Santa to arrive at 5 p.m. to oversee the official lighting of the tree.
After the tree lighting, Santa will lead a parade of children downtown to Butterfingers Bakery, where they will have the opportunity to share their wishes with him until 6 p.m.
The festival will be followed by a Holiday Story Slam with Jesse Moriarty at 6 p.m. at Verve. There is a $5 door charge for the story slam.
