  • Hayseed.

I know 3 CNA’s (er, former CNA’s) and they are all out on disability due to injuries sustained on the job. A very physically demanding job that pays at MAYBE $10/hour for the efforts. Real crappy work for real crappy pay.

I’m thinking along the lines of, they want the CNA’s to do more in order to cut the number of RNA’s, RN’s etc. I didn’t notice any mention of increased pay to the CNA’s that are willing or able to undergo the increased training and the costs to get the training.
My wife was a CNA who ended up having back surgery from injury on the job. Before any snide remarks, her L5 vertabray was in 4 pieces and the only thing holding her back to gether are two bolts from her iliac to the L4 vertabray.
My daughter has taken a job working at one of the many ‘Assisted Living’ homes in the Calais area. In order to work there you have to be a CNA plus have been certified to pass medications to the residents. You also do all the cooking and house cleaning. You get the privilege of working 24 hours straight but only get paid for 20, management claims that you have 4 hours of downtime. All that for the VERY gerneous pay of $8.50 per hour, no medical, no paid vacation or holidays, etc. That should draw thousands to the CNA program.

  • do they mean certified medical assistants?
