ANDREWS, Texas – George William Hayes, 63, passed from this life to the next, Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Sweden in 1949 to James and Margit Hayes.
His early years were spent both in the United States and Europe as his father’s academic career flourished. As a young adult he received valued tutelage from his Uncle Bill and Aunt Betty Hayes, with whom he lived in Arizona, such that he moved to Texas and established himself as an independent businessman. He owned and operated Alpine Foreign Car Repair as well as other businesses in Texas and Maine. He was a member and office holder of the Last Few Motorcycle Club. In these later years he enjoyed tinkering with vintage autos of the 1950s era and driving his 1957 Chevy.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda of Andrews, Texas; his daughter, Georgia Hayes of Crane, Texas; a sister, Ambie Hayes-Crosby of Hampden; an aunt, Marta Smith of Arizona; nephews, Jesse and Daniel Crosby; friends faithful through the years, Robert Adams, Susan Omohundro and Butch Langer; and also a brother, James Hayes.
