Lorraine M. Desjardins

VAN BUREN – Lorraine M. Desjardins, 83, died Nov. 26, 2012, at her Presque Isle residence. She was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Van Buren, the daughter of Eddie and Cecile (Lurette) Madore.
Lorraine worked as a personal care attendant for Visiting Nurses of Aroostook for several years, and as a certified nurses’ aide providing home health care services. She worked for the Head Start program for a few years and as a volunteer for Hospice of Aroostook. She was very active in her church and community as a Eucharistic minister and religious education teacher in her parish. She was a member of the Evangeline Circle, Daughters of Isabella and the local Red Hat Society chapter. In 1989, Lorraine was honored as the recipient of Maine State Mother of the Year Award.
She is survived by six sons, Philip Desjardins and wife, Brigitte, of Bangor, Peter Desjardins and wife, Jeanne, of Durham, John Desjardins of Cundy’s Harbor, Eugene Desjardins of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mark Desjardins and wife, Elena, of Woolwich, Paul Desjardins and wife, Norma, of Mapleton; three daughters, Anne Marie Aubin and husband, Ronald, of Hebron, Conn., Patty Ann Boutot and husband, Alan, Cheryl Thompson and husband, Robert, all of Lisbon Falls; two brothers, John Madore of Van Buren and Eugene Madore of Coventry, Conn.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerard Desjardins in 2009; a son, George Desjardins in 1996; and by a great-grandson, Bennett Desjardins.
Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
