BANGOR, Maine — A Greenbush man who was upset that his estranged wife was out with another man was arrested and charged with drunken driving and felony domestic violence assault last week after he struck her with his vehicle, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.
Kevin W. Twitchell, 28, first confronted his estranged wife and her male companion at the New Waverly bar in downtown Bangor at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, causing the two to leave and go over to the Main Tavern, a block away, the sergeant said.
“He started to yell at them and drove at her and hit her,” Edwards said.
Sgt. Garry Higgins was in the area at the time and radioed in that the woman, who is separated from Twitchell, was lying on the ground.
“The woman and a friend reported she had been run over by her husband,” Edwards said.
The victim was knocked to the ground but was not injured, he said. The domestic violence assault charge was elevated to a felony because Twitchell has a prior domestic violence conviction, the sergeant said.
