EXETER, N.H. – Florence Jeanette Armstrong, 89, died Nov. 24, 2012, at her home. She was born July 11, 1923, in Vanceboro, daughter of Stillman Armstrong, who was born in Perth, New Brunswick, and Adele M. Levesque Armstrong, who was born in Fort Fairfield, of Vanceboro.
She attended schools in Vanceboro and graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1945 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. While at the University of Maine, Florence was president of All Maine Women, president of Off-Campus Women, member of the Athletic Council and Women’s Student Government Association. For 30 years Florence worked for New England Telephone, Franklin Street, Boston. After retiring she lived in Farmington and Sun City, Fla. Florence was an avid golfer, Maine state champion tennis player, badminton player and archer.
She was predeceased by eight sisters, Mrs. Shirley E. Beal of Lexington, Mass., Mrs. Marion E. Reid of Wellesley, Mass., Mrs. Elizabeth Low of Rochester, N.Y., Mrs. Norma Cail of Weston, Mass., Mrs. Alice McCord of Moorestown, N.J., Mrs. Louise Prescott of Farmington, Miss Margaret Armstrong of Farmington and Miss Pauline Armstrong of Vanceboro; three brothers, Vose L. Armstrong of Calais, Herman F. Armstrong of Lynn, Mass., and John F. Armstrong of McAdam, New Brunswick; and one niece. She is survived by 11 nieces and eight nephews.
