ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils will hold a memorial service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, for the three fraternity brothers killed earlier this month in a plane crash at Knox County Regional Airport in Owls Head.

The service will be held in Hauck Auditorium. Lambda Chi Alpha president David Cheney, 22, of Beverly, Mass; education officer Marcelo Rugini, 24, of Muliterno, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; and William “BJ” Hannigan, 24, of South Portland, an engineering graduate student and fraternity alumnus, died in the crash.

Three members of Lambda Chi Alpha will eulogize their friends. Robert Dana, UMaine vice president for student affairs and dean of students, and representatives of UMaine’s Greek community also are expected to speak at the event.

The three fraternity members were killed Nov. 16 when their single-engine plane crashed after colliding with a truck on the runway.

A candlelight vigil will be held in their memory on the steps of Fogler Library after the memorial.
