MOUNT PLEASANT, N.C. – Roberta Arlene Shaw, 88, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, N.C. Roberta was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Caribou, a daughter of the late Oscar Ray Richards Sr. and Mattie Elizabeth Davenport Richards.

Roberta was a private chef for 23 years before retiring and moving to North Carolina. After moving she became a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant, N.C., and volunteered at Northeast Medical Center for several years.

Roberta is survived by sons, Richard W. Whitmore of Manchester, Md., and Robert V. Whitmore Jr. and wife, Mary Ellen, of Maidens, Va.; daughter, Brenda Whitmore and husband, Guenther Swinson, of Mount Pleasant, N.C.; grandchildren, Shawn Ellis and wife, Kellie, of Mount Pleasant, Shannon Ellis and husband, Lynn Moore, of Mount Pleasant, N.C., Jayson Whitmore and wife, Lori, of Chester, N.Y., and Lisa Whitmore of Portland, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Maegan and Austen Ellis of Mount Pleasant, N.C., Samantha and Landon Moore of Mount Pleasant, N.C., and Gray and Lincoln Whitmore of Chester, N.Y.; brothers, Ray Richards and wife, Marjorie, of Delaware and Gary Richards and wife, Mary Etta, of Presque Isle; and sister, Val Constantine and husband, Walter, of Bangor.
