MILLINOCKET – Edward Joseph Raymond, 90, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, surrounded by his sister, Delia Cummings; brother, Ben and his wife, Bertha Raymond; and his two sons, Donald and Patrick Raymond. He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Millinocket, the son of Edward and Annie (McQuarrie) Raymond.
Edward grew up in Millinocket and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a dry cleaner at Eddie’s Dry Cleaners for more than 60 years. He enjoyed music, singing and dancing. He was actively involved in the Cursillo Movement in Maine and Idaho.
Edward is survived by his three children, Kathleen Mary Gibbs of Florida, Donald Erwin Raymond and his wife, Roseline, and Patrick Lawrence Raymond, all of Millinocket; six grandchildren, Kimberly Fortune, Edward J. Raymond III, Kelly Smith, Alex Wegrzniak, Adam Wegrzniak and Brian Raymond; siblings, Ben Raymond and Delia Cummings, both of Millinocket; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline Helen (O’Mara) Raymond; his son, Edward Joseph Raymond II; and his sisters, Helen (Raymond) Duprey and Mona (Raymond) James.
A liturgy of the word service and Communion will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with Deacon Danny Watson presider. Interment with military honors will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Edward may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
