DOVER-FOXCROFT – David A. Richards, 77, husband of Ruth Richards, passed peacefully Nov. 22, 2012, with his wife and family by his side. He was born May 24, 1935.
David was an independent and generous man, who worked hard for everything he was able to provide for his wife and family. As a lifelong educator, David was a teacher and principle at Sangerville before moving on to teach at Dexter High School. David’s influence on student’s lives was not limited to his classroom; he opened doors of interest into the world of theatrical arts and chess. Through example he showed a way for those to expand their knowledge and open themselves to worldly experiences. His meaningful professional career continued into his state service at vocational rehabilitation and many years with D.E.E.P. Even in retirement he spent years as a bus driver finding ways through leading and running activities and sharing knowledge to help others. He and his wife opened their home to family and friends in need, where all learned to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth; his sisters, Ruth, Carol, Doris, Betty and Nancy; a son, David and his wife, Terri; two grandchildren, Kevin and David; four great-grandchildren, Bailey, Elyse, Elizabeth and David; and their mother, Christine. He is also loved by nephew, Don Grogan with his wife, Joan, and children, Kane, Bunny and Kyle. David’s family extends their appreciation to the Intensive Care Unit caregivers at Eastern Maine Medical Center, with special thanks to his nurse, Nic.
