Mary L. Sevey RN

RIPLEY –

Mary L. Sevey RN, 83, died Nov. 18, 2012 at a Waterville hospital after a long illness. She was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Hartland, the daughter of Rollins M. and Laura B. (Bryant) Chapman.

Mary attended St. Albans schools, graduated from Hartland Academy in the class of 1947. She then attended Central Maine General School of Nursing graduating as a registered nurse in 1950. After her graduation from nursing school she was employed as an RN at Togus Veterans Hospital for nine years, leaving Togus to marry LaRoy L. Sevey, May 2, 1959. Together LaRoy and Mary raised their two sons, and owned and operated, hand in hand, the family dairy farm in Ripley. During LaRoy’s sickness and eventual death, June 1, 1999, Mary continued working the farm. She was the backbone along with her two sons, making the “Broadcrest Farm” what it is today. “A hardworking farm wife is finally at rest.” Mary also worked as an RN part time at Plummer Hospital in Dexter and also at Scott Webb Nursing Home in Hartland. During her time working at Togus VA Medical Center, she was able to travel to many places that were of great interest to her. She took many pictures of the places she traveled to and always had good memories of this time in her life.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Andrew L. Sevey and his partner, Elizabeth, of Ripley, David J. Sevey and his wife, Marylou, of Barrington, N.H.; her brother, Edward Chapman and his wife, Thea, of Pittsfield; two granddaughters, Marrisa and Emily and their mother, Beverly Belcher; two grandsons, Michael and his wife, Bernadette, Chad Reed and his wife, Alison; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Myah; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be remembered by Elizabeth’s children, Benjamin, Belle and Lucinda. Mary was predeceased by her husband, LaRoy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Evelyn Chapman. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Dialysis Clinic in Skowhegan for their care and to Elizabeth Theobald for her personal care.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Ferndale Cemetery, Ripley with Rev. Stephen Dean officiating.
