SANFORD, Maine — A vacant house in Sanford that hasn’t been lived in for two years was destroyed by fire on Wednesday night.
A woman who lives next door to the house on Bougie Lane noticed flames pouring out of the rear of the structure just before 8 p.m. and called 911, Sanford Assistant Fire Chief Steve Benotti said Thursday.
The single-family home, which was built in the 1950s, was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived, Benotti said.
Crews from Sanford, Kennebunk and Alfred were able to get the blaze under control by 8:40 p.m., but the $95,000 home was considered a total loss.
Benotti said it is undetermined what caused the fire or where it started. He said the fire remains under investigation.
