MACHIASPORT – The Rev. Betty E. Seidle passed away Nov. 6, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. Betty was born Dec. 7, 1938, in Philidelphia, daughter of the late Charles Stanley and Hattie Elizabeth Seidle.

Betty received her education through Temple University and was a retired elementary school teacher. She taught for 20 years in the Hicksville, N.Y., school system before making the coast of Maine her home. Betty was a proficient musician and music was always a joy for her whether playing or listening. She played the French horn, piano and keyboard. For a number of years Betty shared her musical gifts with residents of many longterm care and rehabilitation homes in Maine and Canada. She was also a certified nursing assistant working at Down East Community Hospital and a volunteer ombudsman for state programs. Betty’s love of our Lord led her to study in preparation for the deaconate in the Episcopal church. On June 19, 2004, she was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bangor. Betty was assigned by the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine to serve at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, Machias, which she did faithfully until the time of her death.

Betty is survived by her two friends of 40 years, Betty Phillips and Pam Miller, both of Machiasport; sister, Kim Terra Nova; and niece, Jessica Terra Nova, both of Colorado. She leaves behind her beloved great dane, Domino; and our chocolate cocker, Logan.

There will be a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Machias Food Pantry.
