Robert L. Tilden Jr.

LAMOINE – Robert L. Tilden Jr., 50, died Oct. 23, 2012, at his home. He was born Jan. 16, 1962, in Ellsworth, a son of the late Robert L. Tilden Sr. and Loretta (Remick) Tilden Tracy.
Robbie was self-employed, but had worked with various construction companies as a carpenter through much of his life. His true love was with the sea, where he clammed – two tides – and wormed the many Downeast Maine shores and islands in rain, sleet, snow or sunshine. Rob lived his adventurous life fully, always the happiest when outside in touch with nature. When Rob was younger he purchased an old lobster boat, working hard to repair the boat so that he could put her back in the ocean. He lived on that wondrous boat when he worked as a pressman at the Ellsworth American. Rob was also a farmer, considering himself to be a steward of the land. Early on he pioneered an oyster farm. As a rough and ready Maine ocean wormer, Mike Rowe put him on Mike’s TV show, “Dirty Jobs,”. Another accomplishment was making numerous seasonal wreaths by picking balsam fir from his own woods. Many of these were placed on graves in Arlington Cemetery and in the stores of Macy’s. Rob also harvested firewood for sale and special woods for his unique chainsaw carvings. Rob had an artist touch for carving and painting myriad animals, insects, birds and reptiles. After one of his craft shows, Robbie donated half his proceeds to Ellsworth Children’s Library. In between Rob loved to cross-country ski with his mom.
Rob is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lori; son, Ben; mother, Loretta Remick Tracy and husband, Ernest, of Ellsworth; sisters, Julie Tilden of Lamoine, Andrea Tilden and Eric Thomas of Waterville and Sarah Warner and Scott of Lincoln; stepsister, Victoria Ringwood and Jeff of New Jersey; and aunt, Emma Remick of Trenton.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at First Congregational Church UCC, 2 Church St., Ellsworth, with Pastor Bob Maddocks and the Rev. Nick Davis officiating. Contributions in Robbie’s memory may be made to Ark Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 276, Cherryfield, ME 04622 or Ellsworth Public Library, care of Children’s Resources, 20 State St., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Condolences may be expressed at
