Bangor health care provider to offer walk-in care service

BANGOR, Maine — Residents will have access to a new walk-in care facility starting Nov. 26, when Sunbury Medical Associates opens its expanded facility at 133 Corporate Drive in Bangor.

“We always tried to identify the needs of the community,” Dr. Michael Bruehl said. “It has become obvious that there is a need to provide a more affordable place for patients to go to receive acute care. Sunbury wanted to give patients an option to be seen at nonclinical hours.”

Dr. Bruehl started practicing in the Orono area in 1978 and joined Sunbury in 1999. He has been seeing patients in Bangor since 2006.

Sunbury Medical Associates was formed in 1998 by several physicians who were practicing family medicine in smaller surrounding communities.

Sunbury founder Dr. Thomas Hayward noted that the goal is to maintain continuity in health care providers.

“We will have a small number of providers who work here. The walk-in care providers will [have] direct access to patients’ primary care physicians during regular hours if they were unable to get in for an appointment. [Our] continued mission is to provide quality care for our patients and the community.”

For information, call 992-0088. Sunbury Medical accepts all major health insurances, including MaineCare and Medicare.
