PARIS, Maine — What started as a simple Thursday morning for Paris police Chief David Verrier and three of his colleagues quickly took a turn for the unusual.

Verrier and his fellow officers were enjoying a cup of coffee at Burger King when they witnessed a vehicle crash into the entrance of a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts, the chief told the Bangor Daily News.

The driver, Maria Whitney, 56, of Norway, attempted to apply her brakes when she pulled into a parking spot but accidentally hit the gas, causing her Ford to crash into the front door of the establishment.

Whitney was not injured in the crash, but her vehicle suffered $2,500 in damage, while the building will need $25,000 in repairs, according to Verrier.

“The whole entrance needs to be redone,” he said.
