GRAY, Maine — Police are dealing with as many as 20 accidents following Maine’s first snowstorm of the season.

A few of the accidents are serious, according to a dispatcher for the Maine State Police barracks in Gray, but most of the accidents in Cumberland and Penobscot counties are simply cars sliding off the road, according to the Cumberland County and Penobscot County sheriff’s offices.

The National Weather Service estimated the state saw between 2 and 4 inches, mostly south of the Millinocket.

Many Southern Maine schools and a few Central Maine RSUs delayed the start of their day by one or two hours, but few organizations outside of the state’s Head Start programs canceled due to the storm.
