Richard B. Sylvia

GUILFORD – Richard B. Sylvia, 77, husband of Linda (Motta) Sylvia, died Nov. 7, 2012, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born Aug. 20, 1935, in New Bedford, Mass., son of John B. and Fortunata (Rego) DeCosta.

Dick served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He and his wife owned and operated Covered Bridge Restaurant and Motel for 20 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and Father James Daly Knights of Columbus, Dover-Foxcroft. Dick was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed all outdoor activities.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Linda of Guilford; two sons, Richard Sylvia Jr. of Florida, and Russell Sylvia and wife, Michelle, of Guilford; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Delores Ferro, Edith Machado, Toni Popielarczyk and Rosemary Arruda. He will be remembered by his special buddy, Manny; extended family members, Vicki, Lori and Abbey; many nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his stepfather, Joseph J. Sylvia; mother; and brother, Joseph Sylvia Jr.

A memorial Mass will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft, with Father Ouellette officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at
