CARIBOU, Maine — The Duncan Graves and Lancaster Morgan Funeral Homes have been honored with a 2012 Pursuit of Excellence Award by the National Funeral Directors Association.
It was the third year in a row the Aroostook County operation has been presented the award for exceeding stringent business standards set forth by the association and demonstrating proficiency in key areas related to funeral service.
The funeral home business was the only one from Maine and one of 164 from the association’s nearly 10,000 funeral homes around the world to receive the organization’s highest award.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as one of the top 2 percent funeral homes in the country”, said General Manager and Funeral Director John Johnston, who accepted the award for the company at the National Funeral Directors Association convention in October in Charlotte, N.C. “The merger of Duncan Graves Funeral Homes in Presque Isle and Mars Hill with Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home of Caribou, has allowed us to present more options to our local families. We look forward to extending our tradition of excellence for years to come.”
Johnston, who has been a funeral director for more than 35 years, almost 30 of which have been at Duncan Graves Funeral Homes, oversees the activities of all three branch locations.
