The Husson University men’s soccer and volleyball teams have been selected to compete in ECAC Division III invitational tourneys that begin Wednesday.
The Husson soccer team gained a No. 5 seed in the ECAC tourney and will travel to Northfield, Vt., to take on Norwich University at 1:30 p.m. in a first-round game. If Husson wins, it advances to the semifinal round on Saturday at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., which is also the site of Sunday’s final.
Husson is 15-5 and No. 4 Norwich is 11-5.
Husson’s postseason hopes ended with a loss to top-seeded Thomas College in the North Atlantic Conference final Saturday.
Husson’s volleyball team (16-9) earned the seventh seed in the ECAC tourney and will take on No. 2 Western New England University (22-7) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a quarterfinal match. The winner advances to a Saturday’s semifinal round, followed by Sunday’s final.
Husson was eliminated in the NAC semifinal round by Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.
EMCC, UMM split
The Eastern Maine Community College men’s team beat the University of Maine-Machias 71-59 while the UMM women defeated EMCC 62-47 in a pair of college basketball games in Bangor on Monday night.
Rob Moore paced the EMCC men with 17 points and three steals while Earl Hassell chipped in with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Nick Sherwood added 14 points.
Elias Gutierrez paced the UMM men with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Jorge Milo added 12 points and Floyd Higgins recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
In the women’s game, Samira Cruz notched 16 points, five rebounds and five steals to lead UMM. Jamyriah McPherson chipped in with 14 points and Yuanessa Vicent had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Dani Ross paced EMCC with 18 points while Emma Johnson added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Larresha Blackman netted 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
