Debora Wolfe Tuck

OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Debora Wolfe Tuck died Oct. 29, 2012, at her home. Debby was born Sept. 28, 1940, in New York City, daughter of the late Dr. Paul Austin Wolfe, former pastor of Brick Presbyterian Church, and Helena Woodbridge Wolfe.
Debby began her career as a stock broker on Wall Street. She married Robert Tuck in 1967 and moved to Chicago, where Bob worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. In 1972 they moved to Belfast, where they owned and operated Gull Motel for 10 years. From 1982 to 2004, Debby held a variety of positions with the state of Maine, including education specialist at Department of Education, community advocate, comprehensive health planner/assistant director of Coordinated Care Services, health program manager/director of Coordinated Care Services of Department of Human Services and comprehensive health planner coordinator at Maine Health Data Organization. In her “spare time” she and Bob founded the Cued Speech Association and Parents Encouraging Parents. She is remembered as having been highly effective in making changes in how care was provided to children with special needs. Debby and Bob moved to Old Orchard in 1999. Their condo overlooks the beach where the rising sun lights up the long swell of the ocean. Debby loved to walk on the beach, swim in the surf, tend her plants and care for her neighbors. She spent her summers at Pitcher Pond, where she could practice her favorite sport of swimming virtually every day. Debora is remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, passionate sponsor and supporter of her sisters, and a loyal extended family member. She helped plan with her mother, Helen Wolfe, the transfer of her father’s property at Wolfe Family Compound, Crystal Lake, Mich., into a Memorial Forest that the entire Wolfe family now enjoys as its treasured inheritance from the past. Debby was loving, kind and compassionate to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Stephanie B. and her partner, Mark R. Furbush, of Fairfield and Alice W. and her partner, Betsey A. Yelle, of South Portland; her sister, Dr. Barbara Wolfe Jancar Webster and her husband, John, of Chestertown, N.Y.; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Helena Wolfe Potter and Julia Wolfe Loomis.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 12 at First Parish UCC, Saco. A fellowship will be afterward at the church.
