WATERVILLE, Maine — A Waterville woman was arrested Sunday after an assault on her male roommate, according to police.

Anita Niles, 34, was charged with domestic violence assault, a Class D misdemeanor, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.

Police had received two abandoned 911 calls — in which the caller dialed 911 and hung up before dispatch could answer — just before 4 p.m. Sunday, Rumsey said.

Thanks to work between police and management at Niles’ apartment complex on Quarry Road, they were able to track the suspect down quickly, Rumsey said.

“We went to the building and tried to find a door buzzer or mailbox that had the last name Niles on it,” he said. “We eventually called the number back and were able to make contact with occupants of that residence.”

The victim reported to police that Niles had assaulted him, and she was arrested and booked, Rumsey said.

She was taken to the Waterville police station and later released on bail.
