BAR HARBOR, Maine β€” A local man with a criminal history is facing new charges after he allegedly tried to elude police, crashed a truck and then made threats to an arresting officer, according to local police.

Tucker Bell, 36, also is accused of operating under the influence when the accident occurred and of having a concealed knife on him during the Nov. 2 incident.

According to Bar Harbor Police Chief Nathan Young, Bell was driving a 1991 Ford pickup truck on West Street shortly before midnight when police tried to pull him over for driving erratically. Bell tried to speed away from police, but went off the road and struck a tree as he tried to turn off West Street onto Holland Avenue, Young said.

β€œIt never really turned into a chase,” the police chief said.

After police apprehended Bell, he allegedly made threats to harm Officer Larry Fickett, the arresting officer in the case, according to Young.

Bell was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, driving to endanger, carrying a concealed weapon and terrorizing, according to a police summary of the incident. A passenger riding in the truck with Bell at the time has not been charged.

According to an officer at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth, Bell was released on Nov. 3 after paying $750 unsecured cash bail and is expected to make his initial court appearance on Dec. 4.

In March 2005, Bell served eight months in jail after he was found guilty of aggravated assault for stabbing another man several months before in street fight on Cottage Street in Bar Harbor.

In the December 2004 incident, Bell used a knife with a six-inch blade to stab another man after the victim and another man accused Bell of stealing a pellet gun. Bell had been drinking alcohol with the two men that morning before the stabbing occurred around 2 p.m.

Young said Tuesday he was not sure of the size of the knife Bell allegedly had concealed on his person during his Nov. 2 arrest.
