SHERMAN, Maine — A female motorist had to be rescued from a crash after driving her car into and under an 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck Tuesday evening, Maine State Police said.
Jay Moore, 51, was backing his 2002 Western Star tractor, which was hauling an unloaded log trailer, into his driveway at 288 Golden Ridge Road when fellow Sherman resident Candace McKellar, 66, ran into the truck while traveling south, state police Sgt. Josh Haines said in a news release.

McKellar’s 2011 Toyota Sienna crashed into and underneath the trailer, trapping McKellar, who had to be rescued from the vehicle with the jaws of life extrication device.

McKellar was taken to Millinocket Hospital by ambulance for what Haines said were injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The accident occurred at 6:02 p.m.

Units from both the Sherman and Island Falls fire departments, as well as Patten Ambulance and Island Falls Ambulance, responded to the scene.

Trooper Dave Coflesky is investigating the accident, with assistance at the scene provided by Haines. The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident.
