Easton’s Carla Halvorson and Hodgdon’s Nicholas Lunn have been named Maine’s Wendy’s High School Heisman state winners.

Halvorson and Lunn now will compete for the national award, which celebrates hard work and dedication in athletics, academics and community leadership.

“Colleges want well-rounded students and, with admissions growing more selective, a national award like the Wendy’s High School Heisman can really help students stand out,” Archie Griffin, two-time collegiate Heisman Trophy winner, said in a press release. “Carla and Nicholas are inspirations to others in their school and community, and we’re honored to welcome them into the Heisman family.”

Awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, the Wendy’s High School Heisman is now in its 19th year.

Halvorson and Lunn were chosen after the field was cut to 20 finalists in Maine.

The two Maine athletes will compete against winners from other states for a chance to be named one of 12 national finalists. A girls and boys national winner will be chosen on Dec. 7. Each national winner receives a $500 Wendy’s gift card and a $10,000 donation from Wendy’s to their respective high school. The winners also will be recognized during the collegiate Heisman Trophy broadcast Dec. 8 on ESPN2-TV.

Other Maine finalists were: girls — Alexis Morse (Mount View), Cecelia McEachern (Ellsworth), Sasah Letourne (Lawrence), Victoria Rollins (Bangor Christian), Jordyn Bell (Dexter), Adrienne Carmack (John Bapst), Morgan Merchant (Jonesport-Beals), Jennah Steamer (Hodgdon), Ashley Martin (Van Buren); boys — Drew Bois (Lawrence), Tyler Warner (Washington Academy), Adam Lebrun (Edward Little), Tyler Sturteva (Poland), Michael Woods (Hall-Dale), Connor Shields (Bonny Eagle), Nicholas Bragg (Washburn) and Nathan Oakes (Wisdom).
