LEBANON, Maine — A man escaped serious injury Monday morning when his truck crashed into the woods in York County.

The driver, whose name Lebanon Assistant Rescue Chief Jason Cole would not release, refused to be taken to a hospital. His Chevy Avalanche was totaled.

“He was very lucky,” Cole said.

The man was headed eastbound on Shapleigh Road just before 8 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway and clipped a utility pole before crashing into trees, Cole said. The driver was wearing his seat belt.

Cole said the driver admitted to him “he would’ve [possibly] gone into the windshield” had he not been wearing a seat belt.

The York County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident, Cole said.
