ROCKLAND, Maine — The manager of a Dunkin’ Donuts shop was taken to the hospital after a customer struck the building with a car.

Peter Fletcher was sitting inside the restaurant Saturday morning shortly before 10 a.m. when the driver of a 2006 Pontiac was attempting to park in a parking space and struck the building. Fletcher was knocked from his chair to the floor.

He was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and released after being checked for injuries.

The vehicle was driven by Melissa M. Philibert, 45, of Owls Head, according to Rockland police. She told police she pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and drove into the exterior wall.

She was not injured, nor was her 20-year-old passenger.

There was no estimate on damage to the building or vehicle.
