Comings and Goings: The national parties appear to have bailed on Maine’s Senate race, withdrawing their advertising. Meanwhile, groups tied to former George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg have kept at it. The King-supporting Americans Elect is spending the rest of its $1.75 million …

Angus King showed he could irresponsibly run our state debt right into a billion dollar hole, so of course Simpson and Bowles should seek his input to provide examples of what NOT to do!

    • Anonymous

Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2 showed that they could destroy the American economy and the American middle class and galactically explode the annual deficit and the long term debt.  THAT is their legacy.

    • Tyke

What a complete and utter crock of BS.
      .
The current structural gap of about $800,000,000 faced by LePage happened after just 2 years of his control and over the past 2 years the economy has actually improved a little.
      .
Governor King was in charge when a sudden unpredictable economic collapse happened after 9-11 that was the major cause of a structural gap in his last year (remember state budget are for 2 years and King left office in January of 2003).

          • Sherman2

I saw that interview and the one with Mitt, that’s one of the many reasons I will be voting for “the current”  President

          • Anonymous

Ok Sherm, perhaps you will pay my taxes and mandatory health ins. for me. Actually, that will not be needed due to the country will be bankrupt if he is re elected. Just saying. You seem to enjoy your taxes paying for Michelle’s expensive tastes. Lobster, and friends fly free, 19 assistants and perhaps her wardrobe that starts with mere jackets at 8 grand. Add the parties at the White House that serve 90 dollar plus bottles of wine at state dinners and for Hollywood ITES such as George Clooney. wonder if you will be sitting pretty in Bean town when all those expenses soar……………………..

          • Sherman2

Now wait a minute I thought you dubbahs held no grudges against the rich.  You know Obama will be much wealthier once he’s out of office, speaking tours, book deals. etc…
Pay your own taxes dude!  And as far as paying for your healthcare, pay for you own like Romeny care requires.  I like lobstah!

Nate Silver, the guy who used statistics to revolutionize how baseball managers look at recruiting prospects, the one Brad Pitt made a movie about last year, has turned to projecting political elections.  Here’s his web site:

    http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/

As you can see, he projects a 83.7% chance of an Obama win and expects the president to get over 300 electoral votes.

The US Senate will stay Democratic with at least a 52 to 48 seat advantage he says.

The question you folks need to ask yourselves is next to the four year long effort and pledge from day one to defeat a president who was elected by a landslide ….. what have the Republicans done for the betterment of the country? Will chat come Wednesday, it will be humorous to hear how the dems cheated to defeat an empty suit who was unable to articulate any coherent plan for anything.

          • Anonymous

The cable that went to the White House that Warned the US EMBASSY could not withstand a “Cooridinated Attack’/ is an outrage and the fact that this has been lied about, you surely are not a vet. Vets are highly PO. So come Wed, when Romney has defeated Obama, we will definately talk.

          • Anonymous

Sorry, chum, don’t lump all vets into your one-dimensional opinions.

            Under the Bush-Cheney administration:

            1. There was significant intel/chatter that something was up before 9/11. No extra measures were taken despite warnings – they were ignored.

            2. Trumped up, phony evidence that Iraq had WMDs that gave a pretense to go to war. Yep, created a whole new batch of bretheren vets – dead, wounded, lives ruined, families screwed up…

            3. Remember George Dubya’s “Mission Accomplished”? Right, we cut through the Iraqi military with relative ease, but with no plan about how to reorganize the country afterward. Bush-Cheney created more terrorists than we killed, ruined Iraq, created conditions that led to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians dead and wounded, spent a he.. of a lot of our own blood and treasure, contributed to the destabilization of the region, empowered Iran, and reduced our influence.

            4. Blew a chance to get Osama Bin Laden early because so many resouces were committed to Iraq rather than Afghanistan, which should have been our #1 target.

There is much more that can be said about the blood on Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Rove hands.

            Regarding Benghazi, Libya:

            1. The attack was on a Consulate, not an Embassy. Security at Consulates is much less than at Embassies.

            2. There is an on-going investigation about what happened and if you got your information from sources other than Fox “News” (what an oxymoron) and the neo-con media, you would know that the facts are still unfolding. If, as you imply, you are a combat vet (are you, or are you posturing?), then you ought to know about confusion during and in the aftermath of a battle.

Furthermore, if things go wrong, there always are claims, counter-claims, and finger-pointing. In the current political climate too many people would rather speculate and condemn, rather than wait for an organized review.

            3. There are legitimate questions about Benghazi, but your words and accusations have no current basis in fact. They merely parrot the political talking points of the far right. When the facts are in, then we all can form opinions based on evidence, not conjecture.

And now to the current election:

            1. Romney is a chamelion, who tells each audience what they want to hear. Do  you know what he really believes?

            2. If he is elected he will do the bidding of the neo-con “chicken-hawks”, of which he is one. Most of his foreign policy advisors are from the Bush-Cheney Administration. Don’t take my word – check it out for yourself.

            3. If you like war and have a desire to create more dead, wounded, lives ruined, families screwed up  vets, then by all means vote for Romney, because if he becomes President we will be at war again within two years, likely much less from the beginning of the term.

Please do not forget when Clinton was President since you want to cast blame. He was on the golf course, CIA had a satellite on OBL. Bill was on the 4th hole and said he would get back to them at the end of his game. Of course it was too late as the satellite lost OBL by the end of That golf match. How about asking family and friends of those who were murdered on 9-11 as to what They think about that lack of job performance. At That time when Bill was president, OBL was Already a Marked man. Suggest you recheck some of the liberal so called facts.

            >>>@<<<

          • trisailer

Suggest you get your facts straight. Clinton was not on the golf course, he was in the WH with his national security team. The only choice available was a hellfire missile that would have taken four hours to reach that position or ground personal that were two hours away. The follow up showed that OBL was long gone before either of those options would have arrived.

Since you brought it up, the CIA had OBL cornered in Tora Bora when they were ordered to stand down by the Bush WH. which allowed OBL to escape. That is a fact. Bush wouldn’t even mention OBL’s name after he let him slip away.

          • Anonymous

I stated FACTS/ Clinton was most definately on the golf course, either 3rd or 4th tee.

After Wednesday what the Republican party has become and what will be left of a group so rightly twisted and extreme will need to take stock of their efforts and repent to those who they’ve tried to deceive (like that will happen.) That deception starts with a two artificial candidates who hide their agenda, ten page voting ballots, voter ID, purging legal registered voters from the rolls, limiting voting hours and days available to vote plus all the rabid extreme tricks and the hundreds of millions of $ spent on what will prove to be a losing effort . All done in the name of Democracy and freedom. If this is your example of how to promote our system don’t be surprised come Wednesday when you’re relegated to insignificant because we all know you have no shame in this grand deception.

This Presidential election offers the choice of two
completely inverted theories of Government. One sends power up from the base and
the other sends power down to the base. The Power and Glory of self-serving politicians, polls and all their sickening money will find unquiet resolution. Mainers, we know we are not willing participants in the hyperventilation and the traditional party lines used to lasso us into two divided, tooth baring wolf packs.

Those of you who really like the effortlessness of the cradle
to grave passivity of Big Government Trickle Down by all means use your
constitutionally protected vote to re-elect Obama but don’t be surprised when
you find yourselves abandoned, defenseless, quite alone and life threatened after
a monster storm… for starters. Rest assured you will finally attain the
change you have clamored by choosing this option.

Other Mainers will use their vote to elect the power-up
option and the opportunity to self create themselves, their families, their
communities and the country with Trickle up Government under their control. Conservatives
of either party understand this approach and know its promise to our children
as the same gift we ourselves were bequeathed.

We are Mainers. In the big picture we want Freedom and
Liberty to pursue our lives. The
power is in our hands and it is urgent for all of us who feel the passion of our
childrens’ futures (no matter previous party affiliation) that we fearlessly unite
as Mainers for them with our votes for Governor Romney.

The reality is that in any human population there is roughly 5% the will not contribute and look for ways to avoid work. The fact that 95% of our population want to work and the people who are working are more productive and being paid less clearly demonstrates that fact. You can prove it to yourself. place an ad for a job that pays $50K with benefits and you’ll get 5,000 applications.

If the republicans believed the trickle down nonsense they peddle they we would have a surplus of high paying jobs. Their tax cuts and deregulation and destruction of unions has produced the opposite. People are working harder with more stress for less pay. The only thing we have to show for the $10 trillion dollar tax cuts is $25 trillion parked off shore. The only people making any money are the hedge funds and vulture capitalist and they are not creating value, their cashing in on existing value.

Nobody except the tea people want to change our economic system. We just want it to work for everyone. It was only 40 years ago that we were talking about a 4 day work week and a minimum of 6 weeks paid vacation for workers. That’s what we should be talking about today and we would be if workers were standing up for themselves instead of collaborating with the 1%. It’s not socialism to demand a fair days pay for a fair days work.

Anyone who believes that (using your unsupported 95%/5% fact) Obama will guarantee $50,000.00 annual plus benefits jobs to all who want to work is delusional. International competition from non-unionized jobs is forcing wages lower everywhere else. The local craft fairs which spring up every fall here in MAine are filled with your neighbors who put their time and money into their crafts but when customers see the earned price tags crafters atttach to their labors of love  customers take their business to Walmart to purchase items made in China or Honduras or anywhere else that corporations have been able to cash in on. What exactly are customers suupporting?

Cast your vote as you see fit. Vote for Obama if you appreciate the irrationality of his broken economic logic, his uncontrollable world vision and his theory of taking from those who do work and giving to those who don’t.

Sing the masses! “Praise Obama and his Independent disciples for He will give us MRE’s…sometime…maybe…..”  Your clay-footed Savior’s trickle down will not quench your hope thirst.

Mainers, use your vote well to preserve your family’s Constitutional right to self-create your lives. Please add your votes to mine for Governor Romney.

You misunderstood what I said. 95% of people want to work as evidenced by the number of applications any good paying job will draw. The number of people that don’t want to work are about 5% they should not be the focus.

The loss of jobs in the US is not all cheap labor. I know the paper industry well and I know that in Maine it was lost to the lack of investment in new technology. America’s loss was not to China it was to northern Europe, all union, with taxes and regulation. Unskilled jobs may go overseas, but high tech jobs are not lost to labor cost. It is simply good old fashion completion. The profits taken by Wall St. is prohibiting investment.
Your delusion is that we can allow the people at the top to take such huge profits for increasing risk and less investment. The tax cuts did nothing to help the economy in the 10 years they have been in effect.

There is a social undercurrent to this electorate which will act as a riptide. Mainers are sick of being dis-respected and pushed into political corners. They’re sick of Big Money on both sides, they’re sick of the elected officials who choose to respect countries who will add political feathers to their red and blue hats instead of respecting Mainers. Let’s bring it all home, Maine! Please add your votes to mine for Governor Romney.

The last riptide gave us Lepage and his tide is going out.

I think you need to brush up on macroeconomics and learn something about globalization. There 5 billion potential customers in the world, many are in expanding economies. They will need our products and expertise. We can benefit from globalization, but not if we let companies make billions and park it offshore. We are the only company in the world that allows US companies to avoid paying taxes on overseas profits.
