SKOWHEGAN, Maine — An Anson man who allegedly stole copper from a residence in his hometown and a New York man accused of trafficking in oxycodone were among 18 people indicted by a Somerset County grand jury on Thursday.

Joshua Vincent, 29, of Anson was indicted on 10 counts each of burglary and theft in connection with a series of break-ins that occurred from July 14 to July 29 in Norridgewock, Anson, North Anson, Mercer and Madison, according to an indictment list issued by Alan Kelley, acting district attorney for Somerset County.

Vincent was one of three people arrested and charged in July in connection with a burglary and theft of copper at an Anson residence, according to a report from the Bangor Daily News archives. At that time, he was charged with felony burglary, as well as theft and violating the conditions of his release from a prior arrest.

Vincent and his alleged accomplices, who were not indicted this week, were caught as the result of a tip that the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office received regarding a possible burglary on Main Street, according to a news release the agency issued at that time. The investigating officer found a rear-side door had been forced open, copper pipes had been stripped from the home and household items had been removed. The residents were not home at the time.

A subsequent investigation led officers to a separate Main Street home, where, after obtaining a search warrant, officers recovered stolen copper piping and other stolen metals and property. The officers also found tools believed to have been used in the burglary and items recently reported stolen in a green 2000 GMC Jimmy vehicle parked behind the residence.

Indicted on charges of trafficking in a scheduled drug, possession of a scheduled drug and violating the conditions of his release from a prior arrest was Terence B. Allen , 27, of Bronx, N.Y. Those charges stem from Allen’s Oct. 23 arrest in Madison, where Somerset County Sheriff’s Department officers executed a search warrant on Allen and his vehicle.

The raid netted 50 oxycodone pills with a street value of $1,750, along with documentation and more than $1,100 in cash. Allen was out on bail at the time for a criminal motor vehicle matter in Maine.
