SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A lengthy investigation led to the arrest of two women on drug charges Tuesday, according to police.

Tania Margate, 39, of Old Orchard Beach and Star-Asia Kelley, 23, of Brooklyn are both facing multiple charges, Scarborough police Capt. David Grover said.

The suspects were arrested at a gas station in Scarborough around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Grover said.

Scarborough and Old Orchard police, along with Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials, executed a search warrant at a motel room where Kelley had been staying recently, and 12 grams of crack cocaine valued at $2,000 and five grams of heroin valued at $5,000, along with $2,000 cash, were seized from the room, according to Grover.

Margate had six pieces of crack on her at the time of her arrest, Grover said. She was charged with aggravated drug trafficking, operating under suspension and failure to appear on an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

Kelley was charged with two counts of aggravated drug trafficking, and one count of possession of heroin, as police found four bags of heroin on her while being searched at the Cumberland County Jail.

Both suspects remained at the jail Wednesday afternoon.
