CARIBOU, Maine — A Caribou teenager remains in a hospital in southern Maine after he was struck by a school bus last week.

Caribou police Officer Jason Matheson said late Tuesday evening that the 17-year-old, whose name is not being released at this point, suffered broken bones.

He was taken to Cary Medical Center in Caribou after he was struck by a school bus on Friday, Oct. 26.

Matheson said that the accident took place just after 3 p.m. on Sweden Street.

The teenager was walking when he entered a crosswalk and was hit by a bus from the Eastern Aroostook RSU 39 school district, according to the officer.

Police immediately began interviewing witnesses and the investigation is ongoing as they work to determine what caused the accident.

Matheson said he has not yet been able to interview the teenager, but the youth is expected to make a full recovery.

The name of the bus driver also has not been released.
