FALMOUTH, Maine — A Falmouth transient who was released from jail after serving a 15-year sentence for robbery is heading back there after being arrested for burglary on Friday, police said.

Calvin Wiggins, 46, was booked into the Cumberland County Jail following his arrest, according to Falmouth police Lt. John Kilbride.

Police were called to a Middle Road residence just after 6:30 p.m. Friday for a burglary in progress, according to Kilbride.

When officers arrived, Wiggins, who was wearing a black ski mask and carrying a bag of stolen items, was attempting to flee from the rear of the residence, police said.

Wiggins didn’t get far, as a Taser was used after he failed to comply with officers’ verbal commands, according to Kilbride.

The items Wiggins had stolen from the residence were valued at $2,000, Kilbride said. A search of the YMCA in Portland where he had been staying turned up various electronics and jewelry that are related to several other burglaries in Falmouth that are under investigation, Kilbride said.

Further charges could be pending.
