LINCOLN, Maine — A vehicle accident in northern Penobscot County knocked out power in numerous towns early Saturday morning, according to Bangor Hydro-Electric Co.

Customers in Burlington, Chester, Enfield, Lincoln, Lowell, Mattamiscontis and West Enfield were in the dark after an accident on West Broadway in Lincoln, Bangor Hydro spokeswoman Susan Faloon said in a statement.

Faloon said the vehicle struck a utility pole and damaged equipment. Motorists traveling in Lincoln are urged to use caution.

Faloon said power was restored at 7:15 a.m. Saturday.

Correction: An earlier version of this story requires correction. The accident which knocked out power for Lincoln-area residents occurred Saturday, not Monday. Power has been restored.
