BANGOR, Maine — The city has initiated a temporary parking ban for the Kenduskeag Plaza from 6 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday because of the possibility of localized flooding from Hurricane Sandy, Interim Fire Chief Rick Cheverie and Public Information Officer Jason Johnson said in an alert issued Monday afternoon.
As the storm progresses, parking restrictions may be put into effect for other low-lying areas, they said.
According to the alert, the city also has brought in additional police and fire crews and beefed up staffing at its public works department and sewer department to help handle any flood-related problems that may occur.
City officials also provided several telephone numbers that could come in handy for residents experiencing storm-related problems:
• For emergency assistance or downed power lines, call 911.
• For downed trees, localized flooding and plugged basins, call Bangor Public Works at 992-4500.
• For nonemergency police and fire assistance, call 942-8211 or 947-7483.
• For power outages, call Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. at 800-440-1111
