College roundup, women’s ice hockey: Boston U. 4, Maine 2

BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision against Boston University Friday night at Boston University. With the loss, the Black Bears fall to 1-4-0 and 1-2-0 in conference play while the Terriers improve to 6-1-0, 3-0-0 in conference.

Boston University got on the board first as Shannon Doyle found the back of the net at 11:53 into the first period. Isabel Menard and Louise Warren picked up the assist on the goal.

The first period would end with a 1-0 Terrier lead.

Kayla Tutino extended the BU lead at 8:00 into the second period, as the Terriers were able to capitalize on the power play attempt. Kathryn Miller and Marie-Philip Poulin notched the assist on the scoring play.

Chloe Tinkler (Wabush, Newfoundland) scored her first goal of the season as she got the Black Bears on the board at 17:04 into the second period. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Michigan) and Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Illinois) picked up the assist on the goal.

The second period would end with a 2-1 Terrier lead.

Jenelle Kohanchuk notched her third goal of the season at 7:09 as Poulin and Menard notched their second points of the game with the assist on the power play goal. Tutino gave BU a 4-1 lead at 12:49 after she tallied her second goal of the game. Kohanchuk and Rebecca Russo notched the assist on the Terriers final goal of the game.

Kelsey MacSorley (Stratford, Ontario) scored her first career goal at 14:13 into the third period with Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) and Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) picking up the assist on the scoring play.

Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Michigan) got the start in net for Maine as she allowed four goals with 32 saves. Ott sees her record fall to 1-1-0 on the season.

Alissa Fromkin sees her record improve to 1-0-0 on the season as she allowed two goals with 16 saves.

Boston University held a 36-18 shot advantage over Maine.

The Black Bears return to action on October 27 as they faceoff against Northeastern at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. Maine returns home on November 2 as it hosts Providence for a 2:00 PM game. They will also faceoff against Providence on November 3 for a 1:00 PM puck drop.
