SEARSPORT – Rita R. Collins, 74, passed away Oct. 24, 2012, in Belfast, after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. She was born May 18, 1938, in Bucksport, a daughter of the late William J. and Margaret E. (Davis) Roberts.
Rita enjoyed spending time with her family; she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed fishing, camping and snowmobiling. Rita would winter in Zephyrhills, Fla., for many years until her sickness didn’t allow her to travel the distance. Rita married the love of her life, Dallas Collins, in 1957, and they were happily married for 55 years. She always looked forward to “Cousins Day” every Tuesday.
Rita is survived by her husband, Dallas of Searsport; her children, Gary Collins and his companion, Kristen Murbach, of Belmont and Kimberly Burke and her husband, John, of Searsport; her four grandchildren, Jason, Jared, Sara and Jeremy; her two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Miles; and her siblings, Wilma “Billy” Berry of Searsport, Mina Barry of Bangor, Rhonda Colcord of Florida, Rhoda Sutfin of Swanville and John Roberts of Appleton. She will also be missed by her mother-in-law, Dorothy Collins of Searsport; a special cousin whom she was very close with, Nancy Hamilton of Searsport; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Smart Cemetery, Swanville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rita’s name to Searsport Ambulance, 1 Union St., Searsport, ME 04974 or Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, P.O. Box 772, Belfast.
