Comments for: ‘Frankenstorm’ may dump snow, gale-force winds on East Coast for Halloween, cause $1 billion in damage

WASHINGTON — An unusual nasty mix of a hurricane and a winter storm that forecasters are now calling “Frankenstorm” is likely to blast most of the East Coast next week, focusing the worst of its weather mayhem around New York City and New Jersey. Government forecasters… Read More

    yup, we’re all gonna die.

    • Anonymous

The only questions are where, when and how.

    • Anonymous

Not me. Got the old snow thrower ready. Got the shovel handy. Got the roof rake set to go. Just wish I had someone else to delegate the job to.

      • Anonymous

The snowblower is all ready here as well. Shovel too.  Don’t need a roof rake. It just falls right off the metal roof like Buttah.  I can’t wait.

      Bon voyage! Have fun!!!

Please, fellow Mainers, don’t wait until election day to vote. This storm might be a week before election day, but who’s to say what the following week will bring? Get your votes in and your voices heard. Some candidates lost out last time by a few hundred votes. Don’t let a storm keep your candidate out of office.

    • Anonymous

I would walk through 8′ of snow to get to the polls on election day.  The big O has got to GO!

      • Anonymous

I would walk the 8 miles to Bar Harbor Town Office to vote for Obama.

      oh Plueezzzze   how pathetic!

  • Anonymous

Yes clearly it’s Obama and the Democrats who have been pushing through legislation for voter suppression and don’t forget the supporters of SSM because they have that magical rainbow weather machine so they can conjure up hurricanes at a moments notice….we all know they are in cahoots with one another.

    • Anonymous

They borrowed it from President Bush.. You know when he made Katrina hit New Orleans..

      • Anonymous

Well that’s probably the only thing Bush managed to do in 8 years…..too bad it was directed against his own country.  I’m pretty sure Bush couldn’t differentiate his elbow from his a**.

        • Jonathan Smith

If that were really the case, he would be Barack’s twin brother. Liberals really are blind.

        • And obama has done what..benghazi …oh tell me tell me..lie like o

          • Anonymous

and Bush had 911 and 2 wars under his belt….try again…..

          • Ya…but his was authorizes by congress ..obama..Egypt ..Libya etc.some foreign policy there..how’s that working out?

          • Anonymous

blaming Bush for 911.  Are you out of your tiny mind?

          •  um, 9/11  happened under his watch. How could he and his administration be SOOOO incompetent? They had plenty of warning — our tax dollars support a state-of-the-art “security” apparatus and network — and the so-called perpetrators were known to the CIA — in fact, immediately following 9/11, all of them were identified and their histories made public. So how could Bush have let it happen? Looks like Bush was weak on defense of our own shores — but he and his pals are still profiting from 9/11, so it wasn’t all bad — at least for them.

          • Anonymous

Say what you will—but you are wrong. No president wants to go to war. If you understand the chain of command, you would realize that Bush is not weak nor hawkish. But, he defended Americans which is the first priority of the government.

          • Anonymous

No more than blaming Obama for Benghazi makes anymore sense….oh but I forget it never seems to work the same way for you righty’s does it?   Speaking of tiny minds LOL.

          • Anonymous

He is to blame. When help is refused on his watch and Americans are murdered, then Obama is responsible for his lack of knowledge. Perhaps attending daily national security briefings instead of Letterman and the View would be more presidential.

          • Jonathan Smith

Bush helped us overcome 9/11 by taking action. Obama flew to Las Vegas after hearing that our ambassador was killed and sodomized in the streets of Benghazi. We attacked Afghanistan as a result of 9/11 and hunted down Al Queda under Bush’s lead. Obama knew where Bin Laden was for at least 6 months and drug his feet unwillingly – knowing it was a political football but afraid to let the SEALS act. Afghanistan is ongoing to the present day and many of our military are still sacrificing their lives over there. Obama has shown himself to be a coward – a weak ineffectual leader who lacks real vision or intestinal fortitude. He makes France look tough.

          • Anonymous

Bush had 8 years to find Bin Laden and DID NOT. Who exactly did the US hunt down under Bush?  None of the key players.  All Bush has managed to do was get this country into 2 unpaid for wars, have our service women and men killed for what ? Never found any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq (whoops), Iraq is still a mess just like Afghanistan will be a mess long after the US leaves.  These countries have been at war among themselves and with one another for hundreds of years.  THAT WON’T CHANGE. We’ve been at war for over a decade and nothing will be any different post our exit.  Except they will hate us even more than they already did.  The Taliban will still have some level of power and influence. How long were the Soviets in Afghanistan and that changed what ?  Ummmm nothing at all.  These countries are never going to ‘like’ us and what’s more is they don’t have to ‘like’ us anymore than we have to ‘like’ them.  Another good reason why church and state should ALWAYS be separate- Theocracies are never a good thing.  Next up the right will have us in Iran and if you don’t think THAT will be a bigger cluster than Iraq and Afghanistan combined you are sadly mistaken.  This isn’t about looking ‘tough’ it’s about being smart enough to pick and choose your battles literally and figuratively.  Think a nuclear attack in this country is out of the range of possibility?  Bush was an inept leader plain and simple a 40 watt light bulb is brighter than that man.

          • Anonymous

You are entitled to your opinion. Mine regarding Bush is much different, actually just the opposite. All the arm chair president wanna-be’s who have absolutely no knowledge of the classified information to which a president is privvy, make many poor judgments in critiquing any world leader. Without the knowledge he had, you are guessing and your political leanings/bias get in the way of being fair. Would you rather have had Gore instead of Bush at any point. Gore who brags and makes ridiculous pronouncements? Gore a man who uses more fuel jetting around in one tour than you use in a lifetime? Judge the man not what misinformed beliefs you hold regarding national security. Think about Obama making a side bar deal with Putin—wait until the election is over and I will have more flexibility. Doesn’t that frighten you somewhat? If a president thought it would not hurt his image, why wait to seal the deal when the election is over? Did you notice that Obama did not respond to that question at the last debate. He obfuscates when he has no answer. Stop blaming Bush and start blaming Obama for the ills of this country.

If Clinton would have did his job on the first World Trade Center attack, the Towers would be standing now. What did he do? Oh yeah, he launched a couple of cruise missals at a couple of tents in a desert.

      • Jonathan Smith

Every time a liberal celebrity says something insane about Bush or any Republican they get a free pass to act stupid, disrespectful, and crude. If someone so much as questions the talking points of President Obama, the “media” at MSNBC or ABC screams to have the naysayer thrown in jail for insulting their figurehead Barack. Now why is that…

Franken-media-storm.  The most over-hyped storm in the last century.  Media representatives have said “There is no other media event to compare this to, it’s off the charts!”.  Although the storms path is largely unknown, the strength undefined, news agencies have started a media campaign that has rivaled NO OTHER STORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weather is weather.  There will be some wind- sigh…  There will be some rain- sigh…  We’ll get thru it.  If your worried about what happens The Day After Tomorrow: ah, the next day happens.

Why are you forced to talk about the weather when you’re on a bad date, or at the barbershop?  Because the weather is always happenin’, even when there ain’t any other news.

I’d say the R party has thatone  all  wrapped up…Voter ID,  No eartly voting,  registering voter and throwing out D registarnats, “Voting fraud is a felony” billboards, wonky voting machines And Then there are the hisory of  hanging chads, brother’s who are governors  and a packed supreme court.  No competition there..

    • Anonymous

Hmm… why is it the voting machine malfunctions are always in Dems favor… Why do Dems keep getting busted for voter fraud? If you can’t win on ideas, rig the vote..

      •  what are you smoking? Please give examples of “rigged voting machines” being in “Dems favor.” Meanwhile, there are Ohio in 2004 and  Florida in 2000 to consider, both of which were in the republicans’ favor. Ohio is as good as Romney’s again this time, since Diebold is headquartered there and their machines are riddled with weaknesses, flaws, and portals for cheating.

Storm of the Century….of the week.  Strap in folks, it’s going to be a long winter.

  • Anonymous

Is this the storm of the century for this month?  I hope people will keep an eye out and help the elderly if this storm does happen to cause a real mess.  As to those who are not prepared due to the “what, me worry, its somebody’s else fault if something bad happens” mind-set, let me know how that works out for you.

    • Anonymous

Thanks for the reminder to check on elderly neighbors.  So many elderly live alone these days and appreciate knowing that someone cares.

when did meteorologists become economists? or is there an app that predicts storm damage? When do the “global climate change” zealots start blaming this on us?

  • Anonymous

Well they have used the hype “storm of the century” until they have worn that out so now they had to come up with a new one.

“Frankenstorm”!  Gotta admit that is pretty good, even for government workers.

Perhaps they ought to stick to “predicting the weather” in the rather bland fashion that it comes in, and and let the people decide  just how this may affect their lives, and all that other  emotional stuff…….for themeselves.  But nothing sells more stuff, and gets more power and control for “government” than does “frightening” people, a methodology that has been in use for centuries.

I think they’d rather over-hype, than under-hype. If they over-hype everyone will just say, “oh, that wasn’t so bad”, but if they under-hype everyone will blame them for not letting anyone know in advance. Either way, the meteorologists lose, but they’d rather err on the side of caution.
