OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Police and state fire marshal officials continue to investigate a fire that left a woman dead on Tuesday.

Patricia Noelbegan, 62, was found dead in her Wesley Street home in this seaside town on Tuesday, and her body has been taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

McCausland said in a news release that officials have yet to determine a cause of death, noting that “additional work remains to be done by the state medical examiner’s office” before a cause can be determined.

Fire investigators and state police detectives started the process of gathering evidence from Noelbegan’s home on Wednesday, and those proceedings have continued into Thursday, according to McCausland.

Investigators are also interviewing Noelbegan’s friends, relatives and neighbors in trying to gather more information.
