Police find, arrest man hiding in girlfriend’s car in Waldo

WALDO, Maine — A young man who was arrested this summer for domestic violence assault against his teenage girlfriend was charged this week after police learned that he has been living with her family in Waldo and may have assaulted her again.

Caleb Roy, 20, of Burnham was not supposed to have any contact with his girlfriend, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. But police got a tip that Roy had assaulted her again and that she missed some school due to the assault.

When police deputies went to check on the information Tuesday afternoon, they found that neither Roy nor the victim was home. However, the victim’s mother called her daughter, and when the girl arrived at the house, Roy was hiding in the back of her Ford Escape under a blanket in the cargo area.

“Officers saw the blanket move,” Trafton said. “He was quietly taken into custody.”

He was arrested and charged with violation of conditions of release from the previous offense. Trafton said that although the victim did not confirm the allegation of assault, police have a “no tolerance” policy about domestic violence.

“There’s no leeway there,” he said.
