Four vying for two open Presque Isle Council seats

By Jen Lynds, BDN Staff

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — City Council candidates in Presque Isle will meet Wednesday night for a candidates forum to discuss issues pertinent to the community before Election Day.

The forum, hosted by the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, will take place 7-9 p.m. at City Hall.

Four candidates — Dick Engels, Don Gardner, Jacqueline Goodine and Craig Green — are vying for two open seats on the council. Dick Engels is an incumbent and Gardner has served on the council in the past.

During a meeting last week, the council accepted the resignation of Jessica Chase-Smith, who was elected last November. Chase-Smith said the move was necessary because of her husband’s career change and job relocation.

Councilors decided not to replace her right away, as her term is up at the end of the year anyway.

Correction: An earlier version of this story contained an error. Jacqueline Goodine, not Jacqueline Green, is one of four candidates vying for two open seats on the Presque Isle City Council.
