HERMON – Alvin L. Thayer, 78, son of Nelson and Mona Thayer, died Oct. 21, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at home.

Alvin enjoyed stock car racing, fishing, mowing his lawn and going for his morning coffee with the guys. He especially enjoyed his time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor; three daughters, Laurie and husband, Scott, of Hermon, Melanie and husband, Terry, of Levant, and Tammi and husband, Keith, of Hermon; six grandchildren, Carrie and husband, Ryan Murray, Eric Nowell, Joshua and wife, Melissa Shorey, Jason Shorey, and Kyle and Gavin Moore, along with four great-grandchildren, Evan and Nathan Murray, and Benjamin and Emily Shorey, and five sisters, Eleanor, Mildred, Carolyn, Beatrice and Wanita. He was predeceased by his mother and father, eight brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon.
