Albert Roland Niles

ALTON – Albert R. Niles, 86, husband of the late Anita (Perry) Niles, died peacefully Oct. 21, 2012, at home with his family by his side. He was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Westfield, son of Frank and Mae (Chase) Niles.

He was employed at the University of Maine’s steam fitters shop for 32 years. Albert was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are three children, Nancy A. Street of Old Town, Wayne A. Niles and wife, Betty, of Palatka, Fla., and Debra J. Severance and husband, Colwell, of LaGrange; eight grandchildren, Ranee Dow and husband, Linwood, Jason Street and wife, Melinda, Sandee Griffith and husband, Isaiah, Shannon Severance and wife, Jen, Albert Severance and fiancee, Katie Day, Vanessa Vhay-Monahan and husband, Brian, and Jim Vhay; 17 great-grandchildren, Brandon Dow, Nicholas Street, Noelle Street, Emma Griffith, Abigail Griffith, Olivia Griffith, Taylor and Daniel Severance, Shannon Severance Jr., Joseph, Coby, Shane and Celina Severance, Natasha and Elizabeth Day, Julianna and Melody Dunn; brother, George Niles of Yalesville, Conn.; sister, Betty Allen of Bradford; and the Tim Hortons’ coffee gang who have been by his side since the death of his wife, Anita, in 2006. The family thanks Dr. Susan Cheff and Julie Reeves for their special, loving care of Albert, throughout the last several years.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where relatives and friends are invited to call 1 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Williams Cemetery, Bradford. Gifts in his memory may be sent in support of the family to Ranee Dow, 899 West Old Town Road, Alton, ME 04468.
