SKOWHEGAN – Phyllis A. Hubbard, 82, died Oct. 16, 2012, at Cedar Ridge Center, Skowhegan, where she had been a resident for the past 11 days following a short illness. She was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Old Town, the daughter of Leo J. and Amelia M. (Roy) Ashey.
Phyllis was educated in the schools of Jackman and Bangor. She married Harry L. Hubbard Dec. 5, 1948, in Greenville, and he died Nov. 10, 1971. She owned and operated J&B Lumber Co., Lydonville, Vt., with her husband Harry, in the ’70s. After the death of her husband, Phyllis went to school in New York for dog grooming and later owned and operated Ann’s Dog Grooming, Skowhegan, until she retired. Phyllis was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Skowhegan. She loved animals and would take in any of them if they needed a home. She loved walking and being outside, having coffee with her special friend Mary, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Dore and husband, Mike, of Eddington and Tina Gilbert and husband, Reggie, of Skowhegan; a brother, Bill Ashey and wife, Connie, of Spring Hill, Fla.; three grandchildren, Andy Dore and his children, Drew, Makayla and Kaylee, all of Eddington, Talia Fitzpatrick and husband, Adam, and their children, Riley and Jack, all of Skowhegan, and Rachelle Nunn and husband, Brent, and their children, Landon and Lauren, all of Skowhegan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; and three brothers, Leo, Roy and Dale Ashey.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Skowhegan, with Father John Mazzei, celebrant. At the request of the family, there will be no visitation hours. Interment at Greenville Cemetery, North Main Street, Greenville, after the service.
