Mrs. F. Irene Powell

WEST PARIS – Mrs. F. Irene Powell, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Ledgeview Nursing Home, West Paris. She was formerly of Swett Avenue, Mexico, Maine. Born July 4, 1926, in Auburn, she was the daughter of Cecil and Marguerite (Hinckley) Shurtleff.

She attended Mexico schools. She ran Ledgemont Boarding Home and worked for local hospitals and nursing homes. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mexico and Peru United Baptist Church. She was married Jan. 6, 1943, in Mexico, Maine, to Edward Powell of West Paris.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Jean Oliveto and husband, Frank, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Patty Kaulback and husband, Victor, of Maple Ridge, Vancouver, Peggy Hunt and husband, Greg, of Hampden and Polly Laskey and husband, Sam, of Mexico, Maine; a son, Jeff Powell and wife, Joann, of Bradenton, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children, Keith and baby daughter Janet; and two brothers, Wallace and Paul.

Funeral services will be held noon Monday, Oct. 22, at Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford, with long time family friend, the Rev. John Hosie officiating. Interment will be at Demeritt Cemetery, Peru, Maine. Friends are invited to call 11 a.m.-noon Monday at the funeral home. Those who desire may contribute in her memory to Africa Inland Missions, P.O.
