ELLSWORTH, Maine — Eight locations across Maine recently hosted the 12th annual Walk For Wishes to raise money for Make-A-Wish Maine. Ellsworth made the largest donation to the organization, which grants wishes to Maine children fighting life-threatening medical conditions.

A total of more than $65,000 was raised in Maine. The Ellsworth walk teams were responsible for $15,236 of that total.

More than 1,080 children with life-threatening illnesses in Maine have received wishes since the chapter opened its doors 20 years ago. Of these wishes, more than 260 have been for children in the northeast region of Maine.

Outstanding walk teams in Ellsworth were Lee Credit Now, which donated $6,000 this year to grant an entire wish, and Ginni’s Gang, which donated $2,166 in memory of Ginni Spaulding.

Make-A-Wish expressed thanks to sponsors Spectrum Medical Group, Maine Shellfish, Ellsworth Hannaford, Pizza Hut, Bar Harbor Bank and Trust and Timbers Restaurant in Hancock. Jim Newitt, principal of the Ellsworth Elementary Middle School, helped provide the site for the walk.

Wish child Jacob, 13, of Brooks lives with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and enjoys football, skateboarding and video games. He is looking forward to his personalized shopping spree wish coming up soon thanks to donors who support Make-A-Wish Maine.
