BANGOR, Maine — A local man kicked in the front door of an apartment house last week, and when police Officer Richard Polk arrived at the scene, he saw him snorting cocaine off a truck parked in a garage next door, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Joseph A. Cammack Jr., 30, of Bangor was arrested and charged with five crimes — including three felonies — at about 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, the sergeant said.

Cammack was at the residence of a 38-year-old woman’s on Birch Street and she wanted him to leave, Edwards said.

“When he got outside, he decided he wanted to go back in but she had locked the door,” the sergeant said. Cammack then kicked in the door to the apartment building, Edwards said.

The woman called 911. Meanwhile, Cammack got into the garage next door and was found with a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine, Edwards said.

“Officer Polk observed him snorting the white substance on the truck inside the garage,” the sergeant said.

Cammack, who also reportedly had the prescription drug Xanax on him, was charged with felony burglary and two counts of felony unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, as well as criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, Edwards said. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Monday afternoon, a jail official said.
