Absentee ballot, voter registration deadlines clarified

AUGUSTA, Maine — In 2011, a new state law that established a cut-off date for accepting absentee ballot requests became effective. Requests for absentee ballots for no cause must be received by the town or city clerk by the close of business on Thursday, Nov. 1.

Voters may register at their local town office until Election Day, and at their polling place on Election Day. Beginning on Oct. 17, voter registration applications must be submitted to the registrar in person.

To register to vote, proper identification and proof of residency must be provided. Any questions regarding elections or voter registration should be directed to local town or city officials.
